The project will develop 52 acres of woodland and low level quarried area at Breakheart Quarry to support increased community leisure and learning activities. This will involve creating trails for organised walks, upgrading the office and workshop buildings and setting up a training and field studies centre. A website will be created with infrared camera links so that wildlife activity can be monitored. Training courses in land management, construction, heritage and craft skills will be organised. The field study centre will provide the opportunity for studying the site wildlife, its flora and fauna and geology, as well as the potential for photography and art. Local schools are excited at the opportunity that this will provide for their pupils. The organisation will establish a car park, picnic area and disabled access to encourage visitors to the site. The project will be carried out by community volunteers and workers from a local prison, providing opportunities for prison work teams to learn new skills and integrate back into society. Following the re-development of the Quarry, the site will also be used as a venue for outdoor recreational activities and community events.
