Region Projects

Transforming Fairy Dell
The aim of this project is to transform an existing natural wooded area of Middlesbrough into a nature and wildlife area for all members of the community to enjoy.
The Play Together Centre
The project will create a safe, inclusive play areas (indoor and outdoor) for children with physical & learning disabilites and their siblings.
Ceddesfield Park Renaissance
This project aims to 'revitalise' the grounds of Ceddesfield Hall, the home of the Community Association, enabling greater use of the gardens by members of the community.
Our Healthy Outdoor Learning Space
This playground improvement project is to transform a seventy-year-old barren playground into a stimulating and inspirational learning environment that support the work of the school, and meet the needs of out-of-school hours clubs and local groups. The new facilities would include a basketball court, tennis supports for nets, shelters, secure fencing as well as interactive displays to encourage good behaviour and healthy lifestyle.
LIFFT - Learning, Including, Families & Friends Together
The project will transform an area of playground at Glebe School in Whitley Bay, into a multi activity play area that will develop social skills, physical development and language and communication skills through a variety of physical, sensory and teaching spaces.
Newbrough and Fourstones Community Play Area
The project would provide a foundation stage play area and multi-use games area on the site of Newbrough C of E First School for the local community. It would be accessible to all ages and abilities and will provide multiple sporting opportunities for people in the community whilst also providing increased recreation/leisure time.
Wildlife Education Centre (Animal Rescue & Sanctuary)
The organisation is an animal rescue and sanctuary in the village of Woodland, County Durham. The project would expand and enhance existing provision by creating an interactive wildlife educational facility. This would be achieved by creating a nature trail, pathways, stopping stations, and making safe areas around ponds for all users including wheelchair access. It would also convert an existing byre for use as an information centre for visiting groups.
West Hall Bunkhouse
The project will extend and refurbish the existing dormitory accommodation at West Hall campsite in South Tyneside. The aim of the project is to upgrade the facility making it suitable for use by mixed groups and accessible to disabled people.
ECO-ED
The Eco-Ed project will create an open space for young people, community groups, and local residents to access and learn new skills and experiences. It will provide a safe and comfortable environment for accessing information, resources and training including crop rotation, promote healthy living, physical activities, awareness of the environment and social events. It will also provide a space for people with mental health concerns to sit and relax. A total of 800 local residents in Pennywell, particularly young people will benefit.
Pontoons
The project will provide pontoons on the river to allow the organisation better access to its boats. Currently the boats are on moorings, which are accessed by dinghies, and can only be reached at low tide. The project will install a rise and fall pontoon and walkway, which will enable access at all times and will make the boats accessible to people with disabilities. Approximately 500 people will benefit from the project.
Bandstand for Redcar
The project will construct a bandstand on the local promenade for general use by the community and local groups to undertake musical performances. The bandstand, located by the seaside, will be a focal point for the promenade area, which is extensively used by the general public. The project will be sited in Coatham, a densely populated but relatively deprived area of Redcar. It will benefit 10,000 people within the community.
ALL CHANGE!
The project aims to update their swimming pool with improved changing facilities. The improved facilities will provide full access for disabled people. Current facilities are limiting to disabled users and are not suitable for families. The availability of family cubicles will remove barriers to exercise, and so increase the usefulness of this community resource that is also used by several schools and community groups including the girl guides and brownies.
Sir Bobby Robson Park
The project will create a recreational play area at Langley Park for the local community to use. The project will enable local people the opportunity to use these new facilties, which will include a children's playground and skate park for young people. The new park will create a sense of community ownership and provide a new facility in an area where there is a lack of recreational facilities. In total 2,500 people will benefit.
Plant it, eat it!
The project will re-develop a currently unuseable allotment site and transform it into a functional community allotment site, with some livestock, that will be used by everyone. The area will be used as a training facility to develop the skills required
Development Of Recreation Area
The project will establish a multi-use games area which will accommodate a five-a-side football pitch, tennis, netball and basketball. The applicant states that the village currently has no provision for recreational activities.
Ginney's Garden Of Contemplation
The project will see the development of two of areas of their garden, both of which will be used as training gardens. One area will be used to grow fruit and vegetables and the second area (the Wellburn Border), will be used to grow fruits and exotic flowers. The project aims to provide aspects that will be beneficial to people with disabilities, and this will include sensory lighting and tactile features.
Lionheart Radio Training Studio
The project will create an off-air training studio so that young people and unemployed people will have the opportunity to develop a variety of media skills and pursue a career in broadcast media. The current facilities do not have enough space and off-air training is difficult to provide as it is a busy live studio. A separate off-air training facility would allow the activities of the group to expand, so that they can offer their services to a larger number of potential beneficiaries. Approximately 100 people will benefit.
Pelton CA Community Garden
The project is to create a fully accessible garden for the community. The group will develop a wasteland to be used as a green space, a children's area will be installed and also a quiet area for older people. A ramp will be installed to make this more a
Life Limiting Illness Film & Web Project
The project will facilitate a joint film and storytelling project between 15 young people with Cystic Fibrosis and 20 young people with life-limiting epilepsy. The young people will work together to produce a web-forum and three short films. The applicant states that young people with Cystic Fibrosis cannot engage in group work due to their condition and the risk of cross-contamination of infection. The applicant will employ professional filmmakers to engage with the participants in one-on-one sessions in which they will set up a web-forum where they can communicate with one another via webcams, blogs and web diaries. These stories will then be turned into scripts by the young people who will participate in group sessions to develop their drama and confidence skills. The project will culminate in an showcase to the wider community.
Blyth Star Gardening Services
The Blyth Star Gardening project has been established for a number of years and now NEEDS TO GROW. We provide work opportunities, training and realistic social care for people with mental health difficulties. The gardening team provides an excellent service for people in Blyth Valley who find it difficult to maintain their own environment and we are now having to turn work away as the gardening team is too small. We also need a new van and new equipment. If we win The Peoples Millions, we can increase the service, thus providing more opportunities for mental health service users and assisting more elderly and infirm people who need their gardens maintained. THIS PROJECT WILL: * Help people with Mental Health difficulties * Help older people and disabled people to maintain their gardens and to maintain their independence * Improve the local environment * Reduce isolation and loneliness by improving social links for both service users and customers MENTAL HEALTH is always the poor relation when it comes to funding. Its' INVISIBLE PAIN is often misunderstood and unsupported. Yet if you consider your own family and friends you will know someone who has needed mental health help. PLEASE HELP US BY VOTING FOR US .......Many thanks
Outreach 4 Wellbeing
Arts 4 Wellbeing is a long established centre of excellence in South Tyneside, providing tuition in arts and crafts in our community, particularly for those suffering from mental health problems. This new project would utilise specially trained and professional artists to provide creative outreach sessions within the community, in comfortable, accessible and safe venues. The project would be aimed particularly at people with mental health problems, older people, isolated women and the black and ethnic minority community. Sessions will include painting, many different crafts, pottery making and other creative activities. Through this innovative project some of our community's most vulnerable and lonely people would be able to experience arts as a therapeutic means. Arts and crafts have long been medically established as a successful means of stress relief, relaxation and building self-confidence through achievement and this project would benefit hard to reach groups within our community.
The Dales Care Two Metre Project
The project will extend the social day centre Dales Care currently run. This will enable more older people to attend throughout the day. Having the extra space will allow more people from the community to utilise the facilities available at the centre and will also allow a better range of activities and lunch services to take place. Dales-Care is a small independent Charity which runs the only social day centre for older people in a 20 mile radius of Bedale and covers not only the County Town of Northallerton, but also the outlying villages. Because we are situated in a conservation area our opportunities are very limited for expansion and the "two metre project", a two metre metre expansion outward of the Centre, will allow room for an additional 30 places. As local authorities restrict finance for day centres elsewhere, Dales-Care continues to provide a service for independent older people who, but for the Centre, would sit in isolation and loneliness at home. Dales-Care is proud to have offered facilities to older people for over twenty years and will continue to do so. We provide relief from loneliness, activities and lunch 5 days a week. Older people matter to Dales-Care and we hope they matter enough to you to vote for us.
