This project will improve and update the entrance to a community theatre to make it more welcoming with an improved layout and with better disabled access in Thurso, Caithness. A new toilet will be installed for the actors to use and a dressing area for disabled people will be created making the building more appropriate for use.
“The Mill Theatre is such a great place,” says the players representative Donna. “Thurso Players put on dramas and music events for the community in the theatre and the annual pantomime is hugely popular: but it is an old building and the entrance is draughty, dingy and squashed. We’d love to have a warm, welcoming covered entrance for our audiences. At the top of the extension a much needed toilet could be added to the dressing room. I can tell you, when you’re waiting to go on stage and you’re nervous and you need the loo, it’s tough to have to wait until the audience is seated and then dash down two flights of stairs to the only toilet on the ground floor!”
The Mill Theatre is run entirely by volunteers and is self-funded. It is the only theatre north of Inverness. Thurso Players have planned this project for years: this could be the year they realise the dream. With your help, they can do it!
