We’d love to have a warm, welcoming covered entrance for our audiences. At the top of the extension a much needed toilet could be added to the dressing room. I can tell you, when you’re waiting to go on stage and you’re nervous and you need the loo, it’s tough to have to wait until the audience is seated and then dash down two flights of stairs to the only toilet on the ground floor!” The Mill Theatre is run entirely by volunteers and is self-funded. It is the only theatre north of Inverness. Thurso Players have planned this project for years: this could be the year they realise the dream. With your help, they can do it!

Scary Monsters!
CREATIVITY IS FOR EVERYONE! To draw-out, discover and engage the inherent creativity in all people in Moray through the creation of environmental art. The influence of public art in community is priceless & immeasurable. In 2007 Moray Art Centre was asked by local community organisation, Forres In Bloom, to help them ‘beautify’ an old and shabby disused building in Forres. The end result was a building completely transformed. A year later the mural has not been damaged by graffiti or any other kind of vandalism which effects towns across the UK. It is this type of community project which can help create stronger communities and help to make areas cleaner, safer and greener places to live and visit. Inspired by this project and by other famous large public art projects we want to create similar spaces in Moray, by bringing community and artists together to create gigantic public environmental art. In doing so we hope to heighten awareness, question people’s assumptions, inspire people, transform a landscape and express community values. The art work could be: Giant beasts and monsters, made of wire-mesh structures that will be filled with leaf compost and be planted; Life size murals which depict thoughts and symbols of people of the area; Large environmental kinetic art works which move with the wind or even images projected on to walls. AIMS & OBJECTIVES Public art helps define an entire community’s identity and reveal the unique character of a specific neighborhood. By getting people involved in their local community and the spaces they live in, this project will have the power to: • Rejuvenate their public spaces • Introduce people to art • Express a positive sense of identity and values • Helps green spaces thrive. • Gives civic and corporate pride in citizenship
