The project will provide a temporary building near to the existing youth centre oil container which has been home now for over 10 years. The extra space created by the new building will enable the youth centre to run more activities and get more people from the local community involved. The new venue will provide a safe, secure and more readily accessible facility that can be utilised by existing user groups and members of the community. The addition of a temporary building will allow easy access for those who are less able. The youth centre is dedicated to reducing the rate of anti social behaviour in the area and the group are hoping that by having a larger space, and therefore a wider populous of users, they can reach out to more people. The project is dedicated to promoting standards and values and to show a better understanding and respect within the local community, It is also hoped a new building will see children integrating with different generations to promote a better understanding.
The Project works closely with various agencies including Norfolk constabulary and Children’s services and the work effort over the last 2 years has seen a significant reduction in anti social behaviour and drink related crime, with a new building the project will be able to further increase this target making for a better understanding in the local community for everyone. The Project also over time has developed a very good anti bullying campaign trying to highlight the affects bullying can have on individuals, working closely with local schools and agencies it has seen a significant decrease in incidents related to bullying, the project also in the spring of 2010 will launch a beware don’t scare campaign which will be targeting groups of youths who wear hoods and stand in groups around public places causing intimidation to the elderly.

The project is run entirely by volunteers and no one within the organization receives any wages whatsoever its all down to hard work and local commitment, the volunteer base we currently have all have a vested interest within the local area and they are dedicated to putting an end to anti social behaviour and giving the children the chance they so richly deserve.

Last month in a a fire the centre lost everything and have had to rely on all its members cleaning and scrubbing just to reopen, “its been a tough month to say the least” said secretary Carl Harding ” its amazing how these children will not be beaten it gives you a sense of pride when you see children as young as ten years old turning up with sponges and paint brushes” the centre who have fought back from the depths of despair would like to wish our opponents in the peoples millions the very best of luck tonight, its a shame two good projects like ours has to provide a looser. newtown youth centre would also like to thank all the members and supporters who have helped us over the last few weeks
