1. How has this programme been developed?

We have worked closely with ITV to develop a competition that will be promoted through ITV regional news programmes and will fund projects that are relevant to the lives of the public and regional TV viewers.

The overall aim of the competition is to fund projects that provide opportunities for people to enjoy their local area, whether indoors or out, and improve local facilities for all to enjoy.

3. Why is the National Lottery funding this initiative?

This programme will be funding community-based projects that are additional to government funding; it strongly supports the overall aims of the Big Lottery Fund and will help people understand how National Lottery funding is used in their area.

4. Will you give any support to projects that are short-listed but are unsuccessful in getting funding?

We are not able to provide funding for unsuccessful projects. They will have benefited from developing their project, and the regional publicity they receive may put them in a position to access other funding.

5. How can I be sure that the voting will be fair?

The People’s Millions has always required ITV to certify the number of legitimate votes cast for each project. The results are then reviewed by an independent adjudicator – the Electoral Reform Society – and then by our staff, before the Big Lottery Fund Chair in line with the public support expressed through the vote makes the final decision.

The final decision on which project is awarded a grant has always been the responsibility of the Big Lottery Fund and this has been made clear to applicants in application materials.

6. When will the voting lines open for my project?

Voting lines are open for a project from 9.00am on the morning of broadcast until midnight the same day.

7. How much will it cost to phone?

The cost of voting by phone will vary depending on the phone provider. Calls will cost 10p per call from a BT landline, calls from other networks may vary and from mobiles will be considerably more. After operating costs have been covered any remaining phone revenue will be donated to charity.

We have used a premium rate phone number, because it means voters will only pay a flat rate on a landline. Some networks do not allow calls to premium rate numbers unless previously agreed. Any callers experiencing this difficulty can ask their service provider to give them access to premium rate calls.
