Cottenham Community Cafe opens to young and old thanks to public vote

Residents of a North Cambridgeshire village have joined forces to transform a 19th century Methodist Chapel into a stylish coffee shop and adjoining community hall.

The Cottenham Community Centre (CCC) coffee shop now opens six days a week and is run by volunteers, with the exception of a single paid manager.

Villager Eddie Murphy, Chairman of CCC said the idea came about in 2007 but it was a £50,000 Big Lottery grant awarded through ITV Jubilee People’s Millions programme in 2008 which helped kick-start the project. Since its doors opened in April 2011, the £180,000 centre is busy everyday with young and old alike and the scones are excellent.
