Who has won a grant in recent years?

With this year’s Jubilee People’s Millions contest entering voting week, we take a look at some of the groups who have won a grant in recent years…
West Anglia Crossroads

West Anglia Crossroads was awarded over £61,000 in 2007 to provide help, support and group sessions to young carers under 19 whose lives are restricted by their caring responsibilities. It offers one-on-one support, days out and residential trips.

The Town Farm Residents Association

Youngsters in Hailsham, East Sussex have a spring in their step now that there’s an exciting playground right on their doorsteps.

The Town Farm Residents Association, based in East Sussex, won The People’s Millions vote in November 2008 to secure £50,000 of Lottery funding to give local children a safe place to play and make new friends.

The Rosemary Early Years Centre

The Rosemary Early Years Centre in Bristol has used its 2008 grant of £49,623 to transform a disused area of land into Rosemary’s Garden.

People of all ages can enjoy the allotments, sandpit and flowers on display.

The Charlton Upbeats

The Charlton Upbeats, run by the Charlton Athletic Community Trust, won £37,800 in 2009 to develop activities for young people with Down’s Syndrome, as well as providing speech and language therapy.

The Old Post Centre in Newhall

The Old Post Centre in Newhall, Derbyshire was awarded £33,280 in 2009 for its Community Against Recession project, helping inspire the community to work, train and volunteer. The money will also help run services such as debt and money management advice, IT courses, a supper club for older people and homework services.

Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club

Players from the Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club show their support for their charity, the Warrington Wolves Foundation… and it paid off when the charity won £45,000 last year.

The cash will help run holiday camps around the town, including one for children with disabilities.

The TS Northumbria Sea Cadets

The TS Northumbria Sea Cadets were flagged to receive a People’s Millions grant of £75,655 in 2007.

The money was used to build a walkway to the water – previously, the only way to reach the boats was by sailing out in a dinghy. Up to 500 people will reap the rewards and people with disabilities will now be able to access the boats more easily.

The Staffordshire Search and Rescue team

The Staffordshire Search and Rescue team received £50,000 in the 2009 People’s Millions competition.

The money will help buy a new, state-of-the-art vehicle to help them in their efforts.
