Rural Refurb (County Durham Furniture Help Scheme)

You need to have JavaScript enabled to view this map

Our Project involves working with all ages in an all inclusive furniture restoration, repair and decorate to peoples request to help create a new piece of furniture that is affordable and that they can be proud of in their home. Or for that matter the people we engage can be just as proud to make it for them.

The project will enable Rural Refurb as a part of the CDFHS to provide training and work experience for individuals from rural and economically deprived areas. Training will include: Stripping of paint, varnish, sanding, minor woodwork, use of tools, general hand skills and repainting and spraying. Individuals would be taken through a full range of activities as part of a structured experience-gaining programme, and their progress documented.

We would if favoured by the public vote be able to provide Rural Refurb with their own transport and a range of tools to enable the quality of work produced to be improved and that we are able to create employment for people as a by product of working with us. Often our clients are hard to reach with multiple barriers. Many come to us suffering from issues, such as low self esteem, loneliness, lack of any experience.

When people work with us the changes are often noticeable within hours, their attitude improves, we are no nonsense and quite robust in our expectations of basic things like timekeeping, working with others, respect and working safely. Often we are the last chance for some and a first opportunity for others.

Please vote for us – we can make a difference!!
