Horses Helping People - The Neigh Team
ITV Region: Anglia West / Year: 2013
The grant will enable Horses Helping People to develop the care farm to include horse driving and harness work, with a mile long sensory trail and vegetable garden. Local volunteers, homeless and veterans will create and tend to the garden, create the trail including conservation habitats, and help to train the horses. The aim is to enable people to learn new skills and team-working, helping with progression to paid work. The tranquility of the natural environment and horses provide a sense of calm and wellbeing to help give the volunteers the strength to deal with feelings of isolation and mental health issues such as PTSD. The creation of the facilities will leave a legacy for future generations of clients who visit regularly, including children and adults with special needs and from disadvantaged backgrounds.
