The Glenboig NeighbourWood project will introduce families and young people to the benefits and pleasure of back to basic play, exploration and discovery in the natural environment of local woodlands through weekly guided sessions. We will encourage outdoor physical activity in a stress free area, developing confidence, communication and self esteem through raised awareness and respect for the natural environment, increasing use of local woodland for recreational pursuit, improving mental health and well being.
We will use a forest school format encouraging risk taking to meet new challenges and build resilience and confidence. In particular, we will involve those more vulnerable and isolated or experiencing barriers to participation, those with a physical disability, young carers and those with mental health issues.
Activities will include forestry skills in tool handling, cooking outdoors, shelter building, camp fires, free play, fantasy story telling, learning about flora/fauna in the woodlands.
