Durants Community Sensory Garden Project

Durants School in Enfield is a special school for children with Autism and other complex needs aged between 5 and 19. The children requested a garden where they could play and we helped them submit a bid to the Jubilee People’s Millions.

The school, which is situated in an urban area of London has very little green space, and with the support of the local community we are aiming to transform an overgrown piece of school land into a sensory and social garden for the children and their families. The garden will be for all children but with the needs of the autistic child at the forefront. This area will enable families to come together and play can take place in a safe and secure environment without the child with special needs being excluded from other children. Socialising is something we all take for granted but many of our families feel very isolated due to the challenges they face and a community garden will truly enhance their lives.
