Bees are essential, they pollinate two thirds of the food that we eat and they are declining in dramatic numbers. This is due to the destruction of nesting sites, not enough flowers and the use of pesticides. Believe it or not cities have become safe havens for bees. With a little bit of help parks, gardens and brown-field sites offer stable habitats and a rich and diverse resource of pollen and nectar for the bees.
So lets make Gloucester the very first Bee Guardian City!
Bee Inspired: Gloucester Bee Guardians is a project run by young social entrepreneurs who will transform the city of Gloucester into a paradise for bees for the long-term – and make Gloucester the World’s 1st “Bee Guardian City”. The project will include the whole community – bringing together community groups, schools, colleges, societies, individuals, businesses, in fact everyone in Gloucester, for a year of free Bee Inspired activities.
Here is some of what we’ll do:
Trees for Bees – Fruit trees will be planted around the city creating an urban orchard – providing long-term blossom for bees and fruit for Gloucester.
Together we will build beautiful bee-friendly habitats for non aggressive solitary bees, and bumblebees around the city.
Expert led bee walks will inspire that next generation of conservationists and entomologists, record existing bee populations and inspire young and old to protect and encourage their surrounding bee populations.
Gloucester will become an inspiration for other cities around the world and hopefully Gloucester will become the first of hundreds of Bee Guardian Cities worldwide.
£46,363 will enable us to do this and reach out and offer resources, plants and trees, workshops and opportunities to ALL.
So lets make it happen. VOTE TO SAVE THE BEES on the 23rd November
